Sun Temple, Osian

The Sun Temple is a beautiful place of worship located in the small town Osian. This is situated at a distance of 65 km from Jodhpur city. The town is well known for several Hindu and Jain temples whose history date back to the 8th and the 12th century. Some temples could not stand the test of time but many are still holding their old world charm. Being a famous pilgrimage center in the past, the town still draws a lot of devotees who come here to take blessings of the Lord.

A cluster of eleven temples built in the 8th and the 9th century and another cluster belonging to the 11th and the 12th century are dotted in Osian. The Sun temple is one of the oldest temples from the group. Built amazingly, the doors of the temple are absolutely high on carving, quality and strength. The temple has been meticulously sculpted. It is dedicated to the Sun God who according to Hindu scriptures is the highest and limitless source of energy. Inside the shrine there is a beautiful idol of the divine.
