Elephant Festival, Jaipur |
The festival has a lot to offer such as elephant races, elegant processions of elephants, tug of war between elephants and men, elephants fight and royal game polo. The festival is celebrated annually one day prior to Holi, the festival of colors. The festival is organized by Rajasthan Tourism and tourist interest was the idea behind its origin. Chaugan Stadium is the venue selected for the festival and it becomes fully packed with the audience on the celebration day. Both Indian and foreign tourists flock to the venue to enjoy the unique festival. Apart from the elephant events some brilliant dance and music performances are also a part of the festival. Local artists flaunt their talent and entertain the visitors. Most of the participants in the festival are female elephants who are embellished from tusk to tail by their mahouts. A Beauty peasant is organized to select the most beautiful female elephant. How cute! The last part of the Elephant festival is marked by playing Holi on elephants.
