Junagarh Fort, Bikaner

Step into the imposing Junagarh Fort, scan its beauty and listen to its history, and then close your eyes, you will be transported into the bygone era. The fort was built by Raja Rai Singh, a general of Mughal Emperor, Akbar. It is encircled by a moat (a deep wide ditch, usually filled with water, typically surrounding a fortified medieval town, fortress, or castle as a protection against assault on all sides) and holds immense historic importance. The architecture of this fort is such that nobody could ever conquer it and the master minds behind this were the planners and architects who made it.

The fort boasts of its awesome mirror work, flawless carvings and beautiful paintings. The fort has two entrances, one is the Suraj Pol (Sun gate) and the other one is the Karan Pol in the east direction. Within the premises of the fort are several stunning palaces. Moon Palace, Karan Mahal, Rang Mahal, Phool Mahal and Cloud Palace are a few to name. Each palace is nicknamed depending on their respective themes. The fort also houses an imposing temple named Har Mandir where several Royal affairs were celebrated in the past such as wedding and childbirth.

Inside the museum of the fort you can see a rare collection of manuscripts, jewelry, jars, carpets, weapons, treaties, decorations and the royal messages known as Firmans.
